In Matacuy (2020) I intended to mix several traditions in an organic blend. The rhythms are inspired by folk dances from the Andes, the harmonies are a mixture of techniques, superimposed fourths, resonance chords, and intervallic pairing of thirds and seconds, while the form is modeled by the Western Classical tradition. The piece is very virtuosic; it was designed to showcase Liz and Tim’s marvelous instrumental powers.
